Product Description
Product Details
Performer Notes
  • Personnel: Stephen Duffy (vocals, guitar, hammer dulcimer, autoharp, tambura, harmonica, melodica, recorder, drum, finger cymbals); Claire Worrall (vocals, autoharp, melodica, piano, Hammond b-3 organ, finger cymbals); Melvin Duffy (lap steel guitar, pedal steel guitar); Nick Duffy (banjo, bouzouki, accordion); Danny Thompson (double bass); David Naughton (bass guitar, percussion); Jeremy Stacey (drum set, wood block, cardboard).
  • Audio Mixer: Steve Powder.
  • Arranger: Claire Worrall.
  • Though never a prolific outfit, the Lilac Time has, since the late 1980s, released consistently pleasing, intelligent folk-rock with an emphasis on melody and texture over bombast. Listeners who mourn the Smiths, Lightning Seeds, and Del Amitri can find solace in the continued existence of Stephen Duffy and his jangle-pop sensibility (and some older folks may even get the title reference).
  • This 2007 release, the first since Duffy's stint as Robbie Williams's co-writer, leans toward the more pastoral, laid-back, and less shiny end of Duffy's repertoire, and his deep, sonorous vocals are foregrounded to an unusual degree, revealing a better voice than fans may remember from previous albums. Every song here--particularly "Dream of a Girl" and "Desert Shore"--sounds like a potential hit.
Professional Reviews
Record Collector (magazine) (p.82) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Plainly the work of a relentlessly curious spirit and deep thinker..."
