Probably the most difficult part of parenting is finding a children's album that doesn't make you crawl the wall after a billion listens (in one morning). There has been Barney, Raffi, and countless bad folksingers, but now a marvel of marketing--Kenny Loggins, baby-boomer star, releases an album for the children of his fans. RETURN TO POOH CORNER will have parents and their children cheering in unison. A miracle: a children's album grown-ups will like.
With the assistance of musical friends like Patti Austin, Amy Grant, David Crosby and Graham Nash, Loggins takes the listener on a peaceful, lyrical journey through a collection of some of his favorite children's songs. They range from originals to traditional folksongs, while many flow from the pens of such talents as John Lennon ("Love"), Paul Simon ("St. Judy's Comet"), and Rickie Lee Jones ("The Horses").
The stand-out is the traditional lullabye "All The Pretty Little Horses" with delicate harmonies by Loggins, Crosby and Nash; an intricate interweaving that is spellbinding. But for Kenny Loggins fans, there is another highlight, the remake of his ode to innocence, "Return To Pooh Corner."
