  • Though the Partridges were a family on TV, in the recording studio they were David Cassidy, occasionally Shirley Jones, and a crew of studio musicians put together by the musical mastermind behind the project, Wes Ferrell. Taking cues from bubblegum, sunshine pop, and anything that sounded good on the radio at the time, the songs were well-crafted pop nuggets, Cassidy had a strong voice, and the cream of L.A.'s session cats made everything sound just right. Their first single from 1970, the classic "I Think I Love You," was their biggest hit, but all their albums hold hidden treasures for early-'70s AM pop aficionados. This set contains the Family's first two albums, 1970's The Partridge Family Album and 1971's Up to Date. Both albums reached the Top Five of the U.S. charts and each contained singles that did, too -- "I Think I Love You" and "Doesn't Somebody Want to Be Wanted" from The Partridge Family Album and "I'll Meet You Halfway" from Up to Date. ~ Tim Sendra
