Performer Notes
  • Digitally remastered using HDCD technology.
  • The original soundtrack to the television series Providence features a mellow blend of contemporary country, folk, alternative rock, and even classical music. Shawn Colvin and Chantal Kreviazuk's laid-back covers of "In My Life" bookend the album, setting the tone for songs like Marc Cohn's "The Things We've Handed Down," Gus' "Laugh I Could Learn to Love," and Rebecca Lynn Howard's "Forgive." The album also includes several contributions from some of folk and country's leading singer/songwriters, including Jonatha Brooke's "Linger," Dar Williams' witty therapy session set to music "What Do You Hear in These Sounds," and Kim Richey's "Let the Sun Fall Down." Titiyo's blues and trip-hop-tinged "Come Along" adds a refreshing twist to the album's largely acoustic guitar-driven sound, as does Andrea Bocelli's "Con Te Partiro" (though its use on the The Sopranos as the soundtrack to Carmela's mid-life crisis was more striking). Overall, Providence is a calm, pretty collection; while it may be less than dramatic, it will probably please fans of the show. ~ Heather Phares
