  • Recording information: New York, NY (??/1926-08/1930).
  • County continues its excellent survey of works by this popular banjoist and vocalist with this third volume of rural, old-time string-band dance tunes, novelties, minstrel songs, and folk ballads. This time-capsule disc of Poole's North Carolina Ramblers features his nimble three-fingered playing and dry-humored tenor singing with fiddle and guitar. Their tunes were well received in their day; their first eight sides sold almost half a million copies by 1927, and their first two alone sold 167,000 in one year. These first-class transfers belie their age and make enjoying the music easy. This is moving stuff. ~ Sigmund Finman
Professional Reviews
Country Music People (1/00, p.30) - 5 out of 5 - "...a star in his time....The North Carolina Ramblers were the tightest band around, with Poole on vocals and banjo....la creme de la creme of old-time country music."
