Performer Notes
  • Liner Note Author: Dave Penny.
  • Memphis-born brothers Johnny Burnette and Dorsey Burnette were fine songwriters, and they either co-wrote or separately wrote a string of hits for other artists, including several ("Waitin' in School," "Believe What You Say," "It's Late," and "Just a Little Too Much") for a young Ricky Nelson in the late '50s, and Johnny's 1960 release "You're Sixteen" has become a rock classic and won a lot of new fans through Ringo Starr's 1974 remake of the song. This two-disc, 57-track set picks up where the brothers' classic Johnny Burnette Rock 'n' Roll Trio ended in 1956 and charts their solo careers through to their West Coast reunion in 1959, and includes recordings done under each of their names individually and as the Burnette Brothers and the Texans before concluding with versions of Johnny and Dorsey's songs by Ricky Nelson and others. Fans of these extraordinary brothers will not want to pass this one up. ~ Steve Leggett
