  • Among the many peaks and valleys international reggae/pop superstar Shaggy experienced in the '90s was having to rebound from being dropped by Virgin Records following a run of worldwide smash singles. Following a widely successful comeback with MCA via 2000's HOTSHOT, the multi-talented Jamaican returned with the dancehall-oriented HOTSHOT ULTRAMIX. The 12 songs featured on this groove-driven outing cover Shaggy's most recent work, and are highlighted by a pair of remixes for his big hit "It Wasn't Me". The Cartel Mix is given a hip-hop spin by rhyme merchants Ricardo "Rik Rok" Ducent, Nucci Rey O, and Wiz Dinero while the Punch Mix cleaves more closely to the original.
  • Throughout, Shaggy's various musical tastes are amply displayed. Muted trumpet and subtle jazz nuances give the Players Mix of "Chica Bonita" a smooth flow while a seamless sample of "Shake Your Body Down To The Ground" defines the infectious "Dance & Shout". Elsewhere, unobtrusive string arrangements enhance Shaggy's duet with Robin on the scintillating "Too Hot To Handle" before this set wraps up with a live version of "Angel", Shaggy's smash fusion of Chip Taylor's "Angel Of The Morning" and Steve Miller's "The Joker" featuring longtime running buddy Rayvon.
