  • Guitarist Bill Kirchen has been recording and performing since he co-founded Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen in the late '60s. Working solo since the mid-'80s, Kirchen has played with such stellar acts as Nick Lowe, Emmylou Harris, and Elvis Costello and fronted his own combo. HOT ROD LINCOLN LIVE! was recorded in 1997, after the release of Kirchen's incredible HAVE LOVE, WILL TRAVEL album. His trio (with Johnny Castle on bass and vocals and Jack O'Dell on drums and vocals) never overplays but still sounds like twice as many players.
  • Kirchen revisits the title song (a 1972 hit for Commander Cody) and runs through an incredible catalog of assorted guitar styles with humor and ease. His singing is full-bodied and honest. Kirchen is a solid writer as well, and a handful of his originals are gracefully mixed in among the numerous covers. The album is so beautifully recorded that its live nature is not apparent until the wholly deserved applause and cheers ensue.
