Although Danny Gokey's debut album for RCA Nashville, 2010's My Best Days, coming as it did on the heels of his third-place finish on the eighth season of American Idol, was aimed at a country market, it really didn't fit his talents very well. He parted ways with RCA in 2011, and went on to write an inspirational memoir, Hope in Front of Me: Find Purpose in Your Darkest Moments, which was published in 2013 and inspired the songs included in this, Gokey's second album, also called Hope in Front of Me. Moving in an adult pop country contemporary Christian direction, and building off of Gokey's ability to balance spiritual themes with secular concerns, the album has tracks produced by Bernie Herms, Keith Thomas, and Josh Crosby, and is part of a recording and publishing deal with BMG. ~ Steve Leggett
