This audiophile recording of Loggins And Messina's third record enables listeners to appreciate some of the finer details of the expert playing and ornate production that characterize this exemplary platter of light '70s pop-rock. It also includes a full set of lyrics, including every last "Boh doh doh doh doh" of the Jimmy Buffet-style Hawaiian fantasy "Lahaina" that opens the record.
As Kenny Loggins acknowledges in his nostalgic album notes, FULL SAIL became the biggest seller in the Loggins And Messina catalog. True to its name, the record captures the group at its height, before changing tastes and the pressures of the music industry brought about its demise just a few years later. It includes the radio hit "My Music," which echoed the '50s rock flavor of "Your Mama Don't Dance," along with romantic ballads by Loggins, and two of Messina's medley-style pieces that combine for almost 20 minutes of music. Trivia note: on FULL SAIL, the artist formerly known as Ken Loggins uses the transitional "K. Loggins." The next year would see the birth of Kenny.
