Earl Scruggs single-handedly reinvented the banjo with his rapid and rolling three-finger playing, a style that bears his name, and the very sound of bluegrass owes everything to him. This tribute to Scruggs was produced by Tim Austin, who assembled some of the top banjo players in bluegrass, combined them with a top session band, and then set them loose on songs Scruggs wrote, co-wrote, or put his mark on between 1949 and 1969. The only thing missing is Scruggs himself. ~ Steve Leggett
