Legendary duo Simon & Garfunkel are the subject of this extensive box set from Columbia's Legacy imprint. Covering literally their entire career's output, The Complete Albums Collection features newly remastered versions of their five studio albums Wednesday Morning, 3 AM, Sounds of Silence, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, Bookends, and Bridge Over Troubled Water along with their 1968 soundtrack to The Graduate and their best-selling 1972 Greatest Hits album. A quartet of live albums is also included, covering both their late-'60s prime and their reunion shows. Their legendary Concert in Central Park album from 1981 has been remastered here for the first time, while Live from New York City, 1967 and Live 1969 had remained unreleased until the late 2000s. Rounding out the collection is their 2004 reunion concert album Old Friends: Live on Stage. Simon & Garfunkel penned some of the best-known songs of the 20th century and their voices have become woven into the fabric of the American musical identity. While there have been earlier attempts at cataloging their impressive career, this set shines not only for its thoroughness but for the superior sound quality of the updated remasters, which were taken from the first-generation tapes. Completists and audiophiles take note. ~ Timothy Monger
