  • This compilation covers Coleman Hawkins' recording career from October 1951 to October 1958. At this point in Hawkins' career, Lester Young's lighter tone had replaced Hawkins' huge, dark sound in popularity. Hawkins' approach, however dated, is nonetheless as intriguing now as it was decades ago. His phrasing is legato and flowing, harmonically interesting and rhythmically diverse.
  • Hawkins' melodic sensibility is best displayed on songs such as "If I Could Be With You (One Hour Tonight)" and his trademark tune "Body and Soul." A mellow and romantic album, BODY AND SOUL REVISITED is made up of many ballads and light swing numbers. However, at the end of the CD, we hear a striking rendition of Charlie Parker's "Ornithology" and a generic blues entitled "Unlisted Blues," highlighting the tenor legend's bebop skills. Finally, smart solos by pianist Tommy Flanagan and clarinetist Tony Scott add to this album's charm.
