Performer Notes

This is an Enhanced CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
Godsmack: Tony (vocals, guitar); Robbie (vocals, bass); Tommy (vocals, drums); Sully (vocals).
Additional personnel: Katrina Chester (vocals).
Recorded at River's Edge Productions, Haverhill, Massachusetts.
"Vampires" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
Boston's Godsmack were poised at the forefront of the alternative metal (or "new metal") scene that surged from underground to mainstream throughout the 1990s. Drawing on the rhythmic groovemetal groundwork laid by bands such as Pantera and Tool, Godsmack are a modern-day, meaner, funkier Metallica. The group made a sizable splash with its self-titled 1998 debut, but Godsmack's longevity is put to the test on the merit of its second Republic Records release, AWAKE. With the melodic, bluesy, Alice In Chains-flavored "Goin' Down" and the Sabbathy "Mistakes," Godsmack run little risk of disappointing their dedicated, computer-savvy fanbase.

Professional Reviews

Q (6/01, p.106) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Displaying greater confidence and density....Incontrovertible proof that Godsmack are no one-album-wonders..."

CMJ (12/00, p.57) - "...Beats its generic '90s-era Metallica formula into the ground as Erna once again summons up the demon within with his James Hetfield-derived howl..."
