  • Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn were one of the greatest singing duos in country music history. The duets on this collection are taken from various collaborations spanning the years 1971 to 1981. Most of the tunes heard here are sad country ballads, and, not surprisingly, many of these songs revolve around lost love--one of the most common themes in country music. However, the rollicking "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man" and the uplifting "It's True Love" are exceptions to this rule.
  • The last selection on this compilation, "I Still Believe in Waltzes," is another song that asserts the virtues of romance. Here, Twitty and Lynn romanticize rural traditions and old-fashioned values. On the other hand, "After the Fire Is Gone"--with its references to bad marriages, extramarital affairs, and whiskey bottles--is a classic "drinkin' and cheatin'" song. Although Twitty and Lynn were only a couple on a professional level, their emotive voices carried every single song they recorded together. Any country fan can attest to the importance of these duets.
