Madonna-like in her ability to reinvent herself, Cher has enjoyed a long and storied career. She touched on folk-rock with then-husband Sonny Bono in the 1960s, took on both neo-hippie and disco-diva personas in the '70s, indulged in MTV video glam in the '80s, and by the new millennium was resting high atop the charts with "Believe." This well-curated collection focuses mostly on her early-to-mid solo career, and includes the classics "Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves" and "Half Breed," as well as her first disco smash, "Take Me Home," and demonstrates how it's personality--not necessarily great vocal chops--that really sells a pop song.
