Reviews

A War of Peoples is a very good book. Gregory succeeds not only in condensing an immense amount of information into an accessible format but also in presenting to readers the state-of-the-art methodologies and approaches to the First World War. For teachers of undergraduates and secondary-school pupils, as well as for anyone wanting a concise but full account of the First World War, this history will be a valuable addition to their bookshelves. * Alexander Watson, War in History *
This is a terrific book: perhaps the best short book about the First World War, covering the military as well as the social and cultural history of the conflict. * Stefan Goebel, University of Kent *
This is an excellent book buy a leading historian of the First World War. It is full of thought-provoking ideas and contains a very useful but critical synthesis of existing scholarship. I highly recommend it * Gary Sheffield, University of Wolverhampton *
