The use of rhythm in filmmaking from the silent era to today

About the Author

Yvette Biro, essayist, screenwriter, and professor emerita at NYU's Graduate Film School, worked on a dozen prize-winning films with noted directors in her native Hungary. She has published numerous essays and translations, as well as ten books on film, including The Metamorphosis of the Image, The Seventh Art, and Profane Mythology (IUP, 1982).

Reviews

"In [Biro's] new work, turbulence and flow advance a theme that has been central to the seventh art since its origins, but which concerns us now more than ever: that of time. Yvette Biro, in a series of brilliant chapters, which are at the same time complex and free of jargon, broaches all the facets of this problem--aesthetic as well as philosophical." Michel Ciment, Director of Positif, President of FIPRESCI
