Alan Lee is the creator of the highly successful illustrated edition of The Lord of the Rings, and winner of the 1994 Kate Greenaway Medal for Children's Book Illustration. He won an Oscar for his work on Peter Jackson's Return of the King. His most recent work, The Lord of the Rings Sketchbook, is a sumptuous portfolio collection of conceptual designs produced for both Tolkien's books and Peter Jackson's movies, together with many new sketches drawn specially for this book.
'Alan Lee's artwork has a beauty and lyricism about it. His art
captured what I hoped to capture with the films.'
