difficult topic that will speak to adults as much as it does to
children."--Booklist
"Lanagan's story holds out the hope that those who have experienced
trauma will find peace and solitude, and that they may discover
themselves again." --Publishers Weekly
"The brilliant speculative fiction author Margo Lanagan (Black
Juice, Seahearts) teams with young Melbourne illustrator Rovina Cai
to produce a stunning, seductive picture-book for older readers. .
. . While the text echoes the Brontes, Whitman and Yeats, the book
holds its own vision. Literary-leaning children, young teenagers
and fans of Neil Gaiman and Shaun Tan will adore the journey."
--Readings
"Cai's artwork brings each page to life; her haunting images and
use of soft hues complement the language and add to the overall
mood and atmosphere. Cai produced the cover illustration for
Lanagan's short-story collection Singing My Sister Down, and they
are proving to be a pairing as formidable as Neil Gaiman and Chris
Riddell. This book communicates on many levels. The layered meaning
makes it appropriate for older children and its lyrical nature and
gentle repetition will appeal to the young. All ages will love it
for its beauty." --Books & Publishing
