Reviews

The heroic story of Hedd Wyn, who posthumusly won the Chair at the Birkenhead National Eisteddfod in 1917 is one of the most potent myths of twentieth century Wales, and as the centenery of his death draws nearer, the hold that this story has over us is as strong as ever.
This is a new edition of the popular bilingual book published by Cyhoeddiadau Barddas in 2009. Included is a new Introduction by the author along with one very important addition to the original text: the letter sent by Hedd Wyn from France to the National Eisteddfod with his entry for the Chair in 1917 – a letter which appeared in 'Y Faner', 6 October, 1917.
This book makes an important contribution to the remebrance and preservation of the story of Hedd Wyn, and in ensuring that the poet’s voice will be heard by ‘all ages to come’.

Profodd stori arwrol Hedd Wyn, Bardd Cadair Ddu Penbedw, 1917 yn un o fythau mwyaf pwerus Cymru yr ugeinfed ganrif, ac wrth i ganmlwyddiant ei farwolaeth ddynesu, gellir dweud bod gafael y stori honno arnom mor dynn ag erioed.
Dyma argraffiad newydd o’r gyfrol ddwyieithog boblogaidd a gyhoeddwyd gan Gyhoeddiadau Barddas yn 2009. Ceir ynddo Ragarweiniad newydd gan yr awdur ynghyd ag ychwanegiad hollbwysig at y testun ei hun, sef y llythyr a anfonodd Hedd Wyn o Ffrainc at yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol gyda’i ymgais am y Gadair yn 1917 – llythyr a ymddangosodd yn 'Y Faner', Hydref 6, 1917.
Mae’r gyfrol hon yn gyfraniad pwysig at ddiogelu stori Hedd Wyn ar gyfer y dyfodol ac fe fydd, gobeithio, yn sicrhau y bydd llais Hedd Wyn fel bardd yn ‘llais a glyw’r holl oesoedd’.
