Alan Whiticker was born in Penrith, NSW in 1958. Since 1986, he has pursued the dual roles of teacher and freelance writer, emerging as an accomplished writer of sporting history, biography and true crime. He is also the author of the bestselling Speeches That Shaped the Modern World (2005 and 2007, Concise Edition). Alan was an assistant primary school principal in Western Sydney and has lectured at the University of Western Sydney. He continues to live in Penrith with his wife, Karen, and children, Timothy and Melanie.
