Reviews

Becca (Rebecca), who tells her own story, is chosen to play rugby for the school team because there is one unfilled place and not another boy to take it. Becca’s mother suggests that Becca might be able to do it since her grandfather – Bampa – was a player many years ago and could give her lessons. In the training sessions with Bampa, Becca - and the reader - learn about different ways of passing the ball. Girls who might secretly feel they would like to play rugby will enjoy Becca’s success on the field. The black-and-white illustrations give a fine sense of movement, as well as depicting all the characters in a lively manner. A good Readalong for 7 to 10 year olds.
