Yousof Mamoor was born in Uzbekistan in 1917 and died in New Jersey in 2003, leaving his children and wife with an English language telling of his amazing life as an emigrant in search for a home.
...the one thing that emerges from these vivid memories is that Yousof Mamoor was...a man who never never lost his faith in humanity, who struggled to survive under the most severe conditions, who had a great admiration for continuous learning and self-education (even without regular schooling) wherever he lived, who was caring and gentle towards others, and, finally, who was able to achieve success in his life as a businessman and a dentist, in spite of the most overwhelming circumstances, a loyal son and a loving husband and father. He was a man who always managed to transform the misfortunes of his life into good fortune, appreciating life to the fullest. With the deepest respect for his memory, I would like to thank Yousof Mamoor for leaving behind an oustanding life story that brilliantly and insightfully describes many of the tragedies of the last century.--Timur Kocaoglu, Center for Strategic Studies, Koc University, Istanbul
