Ruth Eleanor Newton (1884 - 1972) was an American illustrator and doll designer. Newton was born in Erie, Pennsylvania. She studied at the Philadelphia School of Fine Art. She illustrated children’s books, greeting cards, and advertisements in Philadelphia, Boston, Erie, and New York City for more than 40 years. Her 1949 "Amosandra" doll enjoyed considerable fame. She returned to Erie in 1968 and worked and lived there until her death.
