Pandit Vishnu Sharma was an Indian scholar and author who is most famously known for his collection of fables called the Panchatantra. His works are considered to be sources of non-religious teaching in India. The Panchatantra was translated into several languages such as Arabic, Greek, Italian, Spanish, and Old Slavonic, producing a global impact since ancient times. It is only in the prelude to the Panchatantra that the author has provided some of his details. However, scholars and critics have not been able to identify Vishnu Sharma as an actual historical author or a literary persona. He is said to have hailed from Kashmir and served in the court of King Sudarshan. His responsibility was to teach the king's three sons the values and wisdom of life.
