The Oblate's Confession more than succeeds in recreating the Dark
Ages in all their facets. Not since Rosemary Sutcliff's historical
prowess has such a strong sense of the times succeeded in drawing
this reader into a powerful historical saga. -- D. Donovan "MBR
Bookwatch, October, 2014"
With a sure hand and a formidable amount of research, Peak brings
to life the day-to-day realities of the monastery, its food and
drink, its dress, and its duties tied to the seasons.... A vividly
realized story of one boy's attempt to live a life of faith in a
time of war. -- Starred Review "Kirkus Reviews"
