Obama Karma is based on a fascinating question: what can we learn
from the complex character of President Barack Obama? What emerges
is not the usual stuff of politics, but a series of life lessons
inspired by a man who can often seem frustratingly unflustered by
the crises and chaos around him. Russell Razzaque examines Obama's
appeal to voters, and his coolness under pressure, with the sharp
eye of a psychiatrist trying to make sense of success and failure.
- Richard Wolffe, Author of Renegade: The Making of a President and
Revival: The Struggle for Survival Inside the Obama White House.
Barack Obama has been called the Zen president because of his inner
calm, a state of being that psychiatrist Russell Razzaque believes
is a measure of emotional intelligence, and the basis for Obama's
likeability. Razzaque puts Obama on the couch, assesses how he
handles crises, how he responds to adversity, and how the rest of
us can learn "Obama Karma" through meditations and various
exercises to boost our emotional intelligence, and be cool like the
president. - Eleanor Clift, co-author with Matthew Spieler, of
Selecting a President. Obama has the kind of self-confidence that
only comes from knowing yourself well. He's emotionally
intelligent. The stories in Obama Karma show you how he got that
way. - Touré, author of Who's Afraid of Post-Blackness?: What It
Means to Be Black Now
