A warm, funny celebration of brothers from acclaimed author-illustrator Anthony Browne.
ANTHONY BROWNE is the acclaimed author and illustrator of such prize-winning bestsellers as GORILLA (winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal and the Kurt Maschler Award), WILLY THE WIZARD and ZOO (winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal). In 2009, Anthony was appointed Children's Laureate, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the world of picture books. VOICES IN THE PARK won the 1998 Kurt Maschler Award and was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal. Anthony was also the winner of the 2000 Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration. Anthony has also written the immensely popular titles KING KONG (1994), MY DAD (2000), MY MUM (2005) and MY BROTHER (2007).
K-Gr 3-"My brother is really cool," boasts a young boy. On widely spaced lined paper, he writes of his older sibling's many attributes. Not only does he have cool ears and hair, but he also wears cool clothes. And he can score "FANTASTIC goals" in soccer, "run so FAST that...he can FLY!," "read HUNDREDS of books," and write "BRILLIANT stories." Browne's over-the-top, whimsical cartoon illustrations are the perfect foil for this child's exuberant praise of his sibling. Big brother's "cool" button is echoed in the many buttons containing accolades like "SUPER BROTHER!" and "He's GREAT!" on the endpapers. Big brother's artwork is so fine that the wolf he has drawn comes to life and frightens Red Riding Hood off the page. The bubble he blows fills a room, and he reads Browne's My Brother in a chair constructed of books and "cool" sandaled feet. The author's fans will recognize his penchant for gorillas, and they will delight in the self-affirming ending when they turn the page after reading, "And guess what-." Browne has woven in lots of details for the observant child to discover. Whimsical cartoon characters are sketched in coloured pencil on lined notepaper and you get the feeling a child played a part in the making of this book -- Sorcha Corcoran * Irish Independent *
As we have come to expect from Anthony Browne, this picture book is full of wonderful illustrations and imaginative text. It is a great book for discussing a child's place in the family and things they like about each other and would be useful resource for introducing a topic on the family and ourselves. A brilliant book for brothers to share -- Nikki Gamble * writeaway.org.uk *

In another nod to brotherly loves comes My Brother by Anthony Browne, a follow-up to My Mom and My Dad (described by PW as "an endearing paean to patriarchs"). A younger brother chronicles everything "cool" about his older brother: his jumping, climbing, skateboarding, bubble blowing, dancing and more. As the list grows longer, the younger sibling-clearly influenced by his older brother's style-realizes that he's pretty cool himself. (FSG, $16.00 32p ages 5-up ISBN 978-0-374-35120-5; Apr.)
