About the Author

Nicolai Sinai is professor of Islamic studies at the University of Oxford and a fellow of Pembroke College. His books include The Qur'an: A Historical-Critical Introduction and Rain-Giver, Bone-Breaker, Score-Settler: Allh in Pre-Quranic Poetry.
