James Lord Pierpont (1822–1893) was born in Boston, the son
of a pastor. A composer and songwriter, he served as organist and
director of music at a church in Savannah, Georgia. "Jingle Bells"
is his most famous tune and one of the most popular songs in the
world; it was the first song broadcast from space.
Niroot Puttapipat grew up in Thailand, the grandson of a
Lanna princess. He has a lifelong interest in art and literature,
and he most recently illustrated The Night Before Christmas. He
lives in London.
An exquisite interpretation of the ever popular Christmas song
"Jingle Bells" is a companion piece to Puttapipat's stellar edition
of The Night Before Christmas (2007)...this is a lovely version of
the beloved song that could be used by an adult reader to mesmerize
a young audience.
—Kirkus Reviews (starred review)
Delicate cut-out shapes (such as the “skyline” of the town) and
restrained use of red, green, and gold accents give the book a
polished, sophisticated presence, while a final pop-up, featuring
an enormous Christmas tree flanked by builds and revelers,
concludes the book (and the song) on a celebratory note.
—Publishers Weekly (starred review)
The traditional song is enhanced with meticulous and elegant
illustrations in black and white, plus intense pops of red, green,
and gold...This one is definitely for display.
