About the Author

Martin Gilbert is Winston Churchill's biographer and the author of eight acclaimed books on the Holocaust. He lives in London.

Reviews

Gilbert (official biographer of Sir Winston Churchill and author of over 60 books) produces a work of epic proportion that takes the listener on a marathon journey through the 20th century. This incredibly detailed, year-by-year documentary-type look at a critical century is both rich and multilayered but also entertaining and will enthrall audiences. To call this period a turning point in history may be premature, but Gilbert makes a strong case that it was at the very least memorable and action-packed. Begining in the "Age of Empires," listeners are then transported through events relating to literature and science, business and politics, the arts and education, and peace and war, ending with the Information Age and the close of the millennium. British actor John Curless's performance may distract some American listeners, considering the length of this program. Highly recommended for all public and academic libraries, especially those with strong history collections.-Scott R.
