"Javier Marias is a novelist with style . . . His readers enter, through him, a strikingly and disturbingly foreign world." --Margaret Drabble "A supreme stylist." --The Times "Marias writes the kind of old-fashioned speculative prose we associate with Proust and Henry James. . . .
