About the Author

Dr. Ben Tan is the head and consultant sports physician at the Changi Sports Medicine Centre and the medical director of the Singapore Sports Medicine Centre. He has also served as the team physician for the Singapore contingents to the 1998 and 2002 Asian Games and the 1999 and 2001 SEA Games. Additionally, he won the gold medal in sailing, at the Asian Games in 1994 and the SEA Games in 1989, 1991, 1993 and 1995. He ranked among the world's top 50 and was Sportsman of the Year in 1991, 1994 and 1995. He retired from competitive sailing after the 1996 Olympics to concentrate on his medical career.
