General Editor William B. Kessel was born and raised on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation in east-central Arizona. He has a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology and an M.Div. in religious studies. Kessel is the author of numerous articles and papers on Native American life. His field experience includes extensive ethnographic research on the Apache Indians. Kessel is also a prominent author in religious studies on which he has published two books and more than 50 articles. Kessel is a professor of anthropology and sociology at Bethany Lutheran College, where he has taught various courses on contemporary U.S. Indians and especially Indian peoples of the southwestern United States. In the past decade, he has also served as consultant to the White Mountain Apache tribe. General Editor Robert Wooster is professor of history at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, where he teaches courses on United States, military, western, and Texas history. He is a member of the editorial boards of several scholarly journals and former civilian deputy director of the United States Military Academy/ROTC Military History Fellowship. His books include Soldiers, Sutlers, and Settlers: Garrison Life on the Texas Frontier, The Military and United States Indian Policy, 1865-1903, and Nelson A. Miles and the Twilight of the Frontier Army.
