About the Author

Barry has served the homeless and community as the Executive Director at the Topeka Rescue Mission for over twenty-six years. Prior to his service at the Mission, he spent ten years working in the field of mental health. For most of his life, he has desired to draw closer in his relationship with God by walking alongside those who suffer. Frequently his eyes have been opened to see and experience God, while helping those who are in the midst of depression, hunger, homelessness, mental illness, addiction, anger, and hopelessness. It has been through this that he has come to recognize that even in the darkness of suffering, a light still shines. Barry has spent his entire life in Kansas, residing for the majority of the time in Topeka. He and his wife, Tami, have two grown daughters, Rebecca and Elizabeth, a son-in-law, Mark, and a grandson, Jacob Franklin. Though still moving forward by faith, Barry's prayer is for the lives he comes in contact with to be changed and hope to be restored through the unfailing love of Jesus Christ. He knows it is only through Him that all things truly are possible. Jessica currently serves at the Topeka Rescue Mission as Director of Children's Ministries. One of her intense passions is to bring hope and life through Jesus Christ to all who cross her path. Her prayer is that the stories found in this book, and her prayerful development of the applications and prayers written, will be used to draw each person who reads them into deeper intimacy and fellowship with Him. A missionary at heart, Jessica has served in South Africa and Mozambique. Her residency in the United States has included ministry to homeless individuals through street outreach and service at homeless shelters in both Pennsylvania and Kansas. She and her husband, Justyn, have a son, Zechariah John. Through him she has not only found much joy, but also the exciting mission field of motherhood. In addition, she has two stepchildren, Isabella and Shannon, who are blessings in her life. Jessica lives daily to draw closer to the Lord. She recognizes Him as her everything and notes that in all things, it is to Jesus Christ to whom all honor is due. Tami has played an instrumental role in each of the stories written in this book and has been vital in helping to shape the ministry of the Topeka Rescue Mission into what it is today. For over twenty-six years, she has served as a Volunteer for the Mission and throughout her life has helped individuals who have experienced rejection, suffering and discouragement. She and Barry have been married for thirty-five years. While serving her family and providing Home Education programs for their daughters, Rebecca and Elizabeth, she worked behind the scenes to assist Barry with research, resources and a myriad of details. During her high school years, she knew she needed to encourage others and find a vocation to help those in need. Through this book, her desire is that those who read and hear these stories would experience the hope and the light that comes from the love of Jesus Christ for them.
