This collection has its origins in a March 2009 symposium held in honor of the late political theorist Norman P. Barry, an advocate of classical liberalism (as articulated by F.A. Hayek, for example), and includes papers from that symposium as well as new contributions. Contributors examine the classical liberal approach to a variety of issues, including analysis of the Great Depression in the United States, ethical capitalism, environmental problems, social capital, and science as a private good. Also included is a piece written by Barry on the legal theory of Ronald Dworkin and a pair of chapters reviewing Barry's contributions to political theory and the renewal of classical liberalism. Previously unavailable in the US.
