A cartoonist and illustrator from Austin, TX born in 1996. Tillie's
first book was published at the age of 18 by UK publishers Avery
Hill. She has since made two further books with them, been
nominated for an Eisner and won two Ignatz Awards. All in the space
of 18 months.
A graduate of the Center for Cartoon Studies, Tillie likes cats,
architecture, daylight and manga. She doesn't like flowers,
nighttime, loud music, or superhero comics.
Her first major autobiographical graphic novel came out from First
Second in Fall 2017.
"A creator who's half my age and twice as talented as I'll ever be,
Tillie Walden is the master of gorgeously melancholy dreamscapes."
- Brian K. Vaughan, writer of 'Saga' and 'Y: The Last Man'.
"The confidence of this work is startling, her linework is crisp
and bold, her shadows deeply black, her turns of phrase
heartbreakingly earnest...this slim volume feels like a mission
statement and a herald of oncoming talent" - Publishers Weekly
"Tillie Walden is a prodigious and stunning artist. Her books have
consistently been tender, wistful, complex, and stunning. Her
latest release from Avery Hill Publishing is A City Inside and it
is everything you would expect from a Tillie Walden comic." -
Daniel Elkin, Comics Bulletin
