About the Author

Robin Porter is a freelance writer and author with firsthand experience as a member of the "sandwich generation." For nearly 10 years, she took on the role of caregiver for her aging parents, while raising a young son. Helping her parents deal with multiple health problems, while navigating the financial, legal, and emotional issues that accompany the aging process, has given her a unique perspective that she shares in this book. With a background in corporate communications, Robin is an experienced and versatile writer who has produced a wide variety of materials, including annual reports, brochures, newsletters, articles, and press releases. As a freelance writer, Robin has focused her talent on producing nonfiction books. In addition to researching and writing several history/anniversary books for companies such as Domino's Pizza and the Young President's Organization, she has coauthored a number of books on various health-related topics, including Kids First, Diabetes Second; Knock Out Headaches; An Ageless Woman's Guide to Heart Health; and Living with Juvenile Arthritis. Though she has developed an expertise in medical topics, she enjoys researching and writing about many subjects. Robin has a degree in marketing and communications. She lives in Canton, Michigan, with her husband and son, along with their dog and cat.

Reviews

"Robin Porter's new guide is filled with practical advice that will inspire readers to think about aging before it's too late. Drawing upon research, interviews with experts, and personal anecdotes, Better with Age offers strategies and tools to age with grace, both physically and emotionally." -Irene S. Levine, PhD, Professor of Psychiatry, New York University School of Medicine "Porter suggests that aging needn't be feared, that longevity presents an opportunity to remake oneself, and that one can enjoy days filled "with meaning and purpose." Chapters are divided by decades, beginning with the fifties and continuing beyond the eighties, and are further subdivided in well-marked sections that span topics such as diet, advanced health directives, sexuality, continuing work, safety measures in the household, and more. An overarching theme of creating a home ("Laying the Foundation," "Building on Experience," "Making Some Renovations," "Adding On") serves as a clever organizing principle and as a familiar image that successfully evokes the secure refuge and comfort many desire." -Foreword Reviews "Robin Porter's Better With Age is a great, easy to understand, guide to the aging journey. She breaks down the different stages of life and the different issues that are presented in a way that just makes sense. For those who want to march down the journey of life well educated, you should pick up a copy of this book." -Christopher Berry, Certified Elder Law Attorney "Better With Age is an excellent resource for the serious senior who wants to live a more active and engaged life. Whether in your 50s, 60s or 80s, Better with Age provides numerous ways to take control of real life aging dynamics, as well as ways to maximize the quality of later life. Truly a book that is completely filled with great advice and direction." -Bryan Neal, M.A. HSA; Founder of Assisted Moving L.L.C. "Better With Age" is like a good glass of red wine, so sit back, relax, and enjoy. Aging is not something we need to be scared of, but there are lots of questions that come up along the way. This comprehensive yet easy to read guide shows readers what may be in store for themselves or loved ones, and can also serve as a reference as the process unfolds. We all have to get older, and with Robin Porter's "Better With Age" we can age smarter, and with more grace!" -Benjamin M. Brucker M.D., Department of Urology, New York University, Langone Medical Center
