About the Author

Mary Pfaff, acclaimed as "the Beatrix Potter of Hawaii," was born about 1875 in Minnesota. She moved to Hawaii to work at the Hawaiian Gazette, married local businessman William Apana, and wrote the Alice Mongoose stories to entertain their young daughter Mildred. William had Mary's delightful sketches and stories printed as hardcover books, and they gained instant popularity.

Reviews

Our family is going to give a copy of each book in the "Alice and Alistair" series to our friends who have children. "Alice and Alistair Have A Restaurant" is marvelous. Our nieces and nephews love the book. It is large enough for them to hold, and the illustrations are warm with a charming, old-fashioned flavor. The series depicts animal characters who, through their adventures, help and support each other. Alice Mongoose and Alistair Rat in Hawaii is a cute story about a young lady mongoose that has decided to be on her own. The book takes you through her journey into her adult life, future job and home with an unlikely new friend. This story is written in the style of some classic tales by Beatrix Potter, Arnold Lobel, and Jan Brett. The artwork is very well done as it is as essential to the story as the words themselves. Very gentle story, suitable for all ages. Lovely illustrations, definitely in the style of Beatrix Potter. Looking forward to the others being released on Kindle. Plan to share this one with my grandchildren.
