James was born in the South of Scotland in 1970, and educated variously in West London, Italy, Bournemouth, and Cornwall. He spent the majority of his formative years building a career in the Information Technology business. It wasn't until a friend thrust a copy of "The Washing of the Spears" by Donald Morris into his hands that his interest in history was fully ignited. Since then his study of the Victorian period, and in particular the colonisation of Africa, has become the passion out of which The Zulu and the Lion was born. Work has already begun on the second book of the trilogy, set in London and the Congo during the brutal reign of the Belgians. When not writing James enjoys playing Tennis, Travelling, and spending time with his wife and two young children.
