About the Author

Wayne Mark Rooney was born in Croxteth, Liverpool in October 1985, to parents Thomas Wayne Rooney (aka Wayne Rooney Snr) and Jeanette. He also has two brothers, Graeme and John. Wayne attended Our Lady & St Swithin’s RC primary school and De La Salle secondary school. He was only nine when he was spotted by Everton scout Bob Pendleton playing for boys' club Copplehouse in the local Walton and Kirkdale Junior League. In his last season with Copplehouse he scored 99 goals before joining the Everton academy. He made his Everton first team debut under manager David Moyes in August 2002 against Spurs, and became the youngest scorer in Premier League history that year, at the age of 16. After two seasons at Goodison, he was sold to Manchester United in August 2004 for £30 million, a world record transfer fee for a teenager. Among the awards he has won are BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year, PFA Young Player of the Year for two years running, the European Golden Boot and the Fifa Pro World Young Player of the year. He made his international debut in February 2003 against Australia and become the youngest-ever scorer for England at age 17 against Macedonia. He has played in Euro 2004 and World Cup 2006. He currently wears the No 8 shirt at Old Trafford.
