Ole Crumlin-Pedersen († 2011) spent the greater part of his life in charge of Denmark’s maritime heritage as a curator of maritime archaeology and ships at the Danish National Museum (1962-2003). In 1993, a major ten-year grant from The Danish National Research Foundation enabled Crumlin-Pedersen to expand the Roskilde institutions into an international research centre, at which maritime archaeology could be studied in its broader archaeological and historical context.
As in all the Ships and Boats of the North volumes, they set the highest standards of research, interpretation, and publication.
