About the Author

Sean O’Toole is the Director of Learning and Development for the Community Services arm of the NSW Department of Human Services. Previously he was Director of the NSW Corrective Services Academy. He has also worked as a journalist and as a designated detective with the Australian Federal Police. For the past ten years he has occupied a range of senior human resource development roles. Sean has also worked part-time as a lecturer for NSW TAFE, Southern Cross University, the University of Western Sydney, and the University of Sydney. He has Masters degrees in Australian Studies and in Education, and post-graduate qualifications in management. He also has a Diploma in Education, and recently completed post-graduate studies in organisational behaviour at Harvard University. Sean is also the author of four books on topics related to crime and criminology.

Natalie Ferres is an Associate Director at Bendelta, a management advisory firm that assists organisations to achieve results through strategic people initiatives. With undergraduate, Honours, and PhD (Specially Commended) qualifications in Psychology, she has 9 years’ experience as an MBA lecturer and has published widely in her areas of interest. Natalie’s keynotes and conference papers have been delivered in Australia, Canada, the UK (Oxford), the US, Greece, South Africa, Mexico, the Netherlands, and Italy. Natalie has led a number of selection and retention projects and has coached numerous senior leaders. She also continues as a Consulting Partner for Emotional Intelligence Development Australia and as a contract lecturer for the Adelaide Graduate School of Business. She has worked extensively in projects that assist to develop human potential.

Julia Connell, Dip RSA, Dip Ed, MA Dist (Reading), PhD (Newcastle), FAHRI, is Professor and Dean of Graduate Studies, Australian Catholic University in North Sydney, Australia. Prior to this, Julia has been: Associate Dean Postgraduate Programs, UTS Business; Chair of Research, University of Wollongong in Dubai; Associate Dean International University of Newcastle. Julia worked in various public and private sector organisations in the UK before joining The Henley College, Oxford. Julia has co-edited four books, published over 40 refereed journal articles, and co-edited nine special issue journal editions. Julia is a Fellow of the Australian Human Resources Institute, and is on the editorial board of the British journal Personnel Review. Her research areas include HRM, organisational change, networks and clusters, and organisational and management effectiveness. Julia has designed and delivered a number of management programmes for various organisations, including the RAAF, Macquarie Generation, Newcastle City Council, Maitland City Council, Energy Australia, ANI Comsteel, The Victorian Meat Council, Ampcontrol, the NSW Police Service, and QBE.
