A. W. TOZER began his lifelong pursuit of God at the age of seventeen after hearing a street preacher. He never attended high school or seminary--his spiritual understanding came from the power of the Word and the power of the Spirit. While serving as a pastor and magazine editor, he wrote prolifically about basic spiritual disciplines and their relationship to contemporary life. His powerful use of words continues to grip the intellect and stir the soul of today's reader.
"Failure to distinguish the part of God from the part of man in
salvation has prevented the countless seekers from finding peace,
and left whole sections of the Church of Christ powerless...This
short text paves the way for the Church to walk in the power of the
Spirit. What hinders and what flames that power is crucial to
faith. It is easy to confuse our part and responsibility of
salvation and what is God's. Why repentance is a powerful tool that
it leads us to assurance and to action. It prevents confusion and
doubt. Without repentance, we do not see our need for salvation and
the gift of the gospel. We lose the power of the gospel when we do
not deal with sin. We lose power of the gospel when we see
ourselves as victims. We lose the power of the gospel when we feel
sorry for our lot in life. The power of the Gospel comes when we
become responsible for our sin and trust Christ work on the cross.
Some of the quotes that are encouraging and offer confidence in our
salvation. If atonement was made for all men, why are not all
saved? The answer is that before redemption becomes effective
toward the individual man there is an act which that man must do.
That act is not one of merit, but of condition. And it is an act of
eternal importance. The Bible recognizes no faith that does not lead
to obedience, nor does it recognize any obedience that does not
spring from faith. The two are opposite sides of the same coin.
Were we to split a coin edgewise we would destroy both sides and
render the whole thing valueless. So faith and obedience are
forever joined and each one is with value when separated from the
other. The trouble with many of us today is that we are trying to
believe without intending to obey. Tozer is always to the point and
does not sugar coat a god that is easily manipulated but a God that
is concerned about our the well being of our soul so that we may
know Him.A Special Thank You to Moody Publishing and Netgalley for

"I will read anything from Tozer...anything. This one did not
disappoint as he does a great job of highlighting how beautiful
that Jesus would die for us sinners. Our lives begin to change the
moment we embrace this event that took place on the Cross. We
cannot question the love of God without looking at the Cross. We
have to allow ourselves the space to chew on what Jesus did for us
and what He went through for us to set us free from the curse of
sin. Tozer goes right to the heart of this and brings to life the
beauty of the love of Jesus. A great book!"Reviewed by JT Thomason
