"A superb collection by American and Vietnamese veterans of the
Vietnam War...39 stories that deal with survival, wartime and every
day thereafter, when one must survive not merely bullets and mines,
but depression, alcoholism, failed marriages, and continual fear."
--Kirkus Review
"Stunning in both scope and content, this collection strips away
the uniforms and propaganda to reveal the fearful, naive peoples of
both sides engulfed in a war with consequences neither could
imagine." --Publishers Weekly
"The structure of this unique anthology is tremendously effective:
stories by American writers alternate with those by Vietnamese
writers and they relate to each other in ways both expected and
quite startling...[stories that] reflect back on a world addicted
to war, but also to the search for understanding and for peace."
--ALA Booklist
