About the Author

Co-founder and Publishing Director of Karadi Tales Company, Shobha Viswanath has been responsible for steering the direction of the publishing house. An author herself, she has published books with Puffin and Scholastic. Through her work, she hopes that children will recognise, appreciate, and enjoy art and make it an integral part of their story process. Shobha's efforts are focused towards reclaiming a place for Indian literature for children in the picture book format.

Since the late 1980s, Uma Krishnaswamy has been illustrating books for children and adults. She enjoys creating parallel worlds through her art, which she renders in styles and fashions picked up from all corners of the globe. She has loved her little pots of paints from the time she was little, and even today refuses to throw out dried up, unusable paints, simply because they look so cheerful on her work table. A collector of children's books, Uma teaches Visual Studies at the Madras Craft Foundation, and History of Art is her all-time favourite subject. She has lived in Chennai for most of her life.

Reviews

"Monkey is often cast as a trickster in Asian folklore: Here he comes off as both wise and courageous" - Kirkus "You can practically taste the mangoes and smell the rose apple tree that the monkeys hide in. The art is vibrant, and captures the excitement of the story. This is a book that could make children curious to find out more about this part of the world" - Portland Book Review
