In 1977, South African born Christopher Abbey and his family immigrated to New Zealand. He started writing as a hobby to counteract the number-crunching of a demanding Quantity Surveying career. Self-employed from 1992, a creative writing course in 1996 inspired A Moment's Silence and relegated two other works-in-progress to the 'to-do' shelf. He has lived in Palmerston North since 1978.
