Ann Rayburn was born in California in 1934. Poetry called to her early; she wrote her first poem at six and can recall all but one line of it. She received a degree in English from Stanford, where she was accepted as an undergraduate into the university's creative writing program. A move to the east coast and a mid-life focus on career development, plus raising two sons, led to thirty-five years' practice as a psychotherapist and an intermittent hiatus in writing. Now retired, she lives with her partner, Jeremy Taylor, in Falls Church, Virginia, where she writes, gardens, and keeps track of her four grandchildren.
