Gr 1-4-The adventures of Jack and Annie continue in the four books by Mary Pope Osborne included here: Stage Fright on a Summer Night; Good Morning, Gorillas; Thanksgiving on Thursday; High Tide in Hawaii. In these tales, brother and sister journey in their magic tree house to different times and places and land in William Shakespeare's London, the African rainforest to learn about gorillas, help prepare the first Thanksgiving, and hang ten in old Hawaii. Each trip is easy enough to navigate with no mishaps or danger on the horizon for the siblings, which should be reassuring to young listeners. Once the pair finds the answer to the clue provided by their magical guide, Morgan LeFay, they are quickly transported back to the woods near their home. The four stories are linked together because there is a "special magic" to be found in each place. Osborne's narration sets the right tone whether she is speaking as Shakespeare or as little sister Annie. Some background music sets the scene for each foray. This set of books for kids is fabulous, my kids love sitting down each night to see what adventures Jack & Annie get up to and what new place they are going to visit. It has encouraged my kids to ask lots of questions about the places the kids travel to and visit. I would totally recommend this book set for all children. A must have in your home library.

My six yr old and myself are fond admirers of this author. Each and every story gives a little bit more information and so the young reader is not only learning to read but learning about history or animals etc.... Whenever I read to him I always leave us both "hanging" and if he wishes me to continue sometimes I do and sometimes I don't... Mostly, I want to find out what happens to Jack and Annie also so I read just a few more lines and again get to the cliff hanging point in the story and stop till the next time! (Mean I know, but enjoyable) Now that six year old is fairly much reading by himself he still enjoys our nightly episodes of Magic Tree House. Long may it last I say, and I know that these moments won't! For now though - totally recommended by myself and my lil guy.

As a Primary School Teacher, I am so glad to have obtained this set of "The Magic Tree House" books. I've had my eyes open for the whole set for a long time. (Then I found Fishpond) While I don't rate them highly as well-written literature, the children in my class love hearing the stories and the theme of each book lends itself to further development within the class. We all look forward to Annie and Jack's next adventure in the series.

This is a wonderful series of books for kids. They are well written and have helped to inspire my daughter to read with greater enthusiasm. They series is well worth the small investment.
